finding first n eigenvalues

Feb 26, 2012 at 7:08 PM

Hello there!

I was wondering if its possible for meta numerics to compute only the first n eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a matrix (or those within a certain range), and abort computation once they are found. I believe ARPACK has this functionality so I was wondering if meta numerics did as well?

Many thanks for a quick reply or example.

Hi Daniel,

I'm afraid meta numerics doesn't have this capeability. This capeability is most important for large, sparce matrices, which is ARPACK's area of concentration. Meta numerics has just started to add sparce matrix support. We will consider adding incomplete eigenvalue functionality as we expand our coverage of this area. Thanks for asking.
